{"id":26,"date":"2015-01-21T20:48:50","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T20:48:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jessicaleerichardson.com\/?page_id=26"},"modified":"2026-09-06T23:42:57","modified_gmt":"2026-09-06T23:42:57","slug":"writing-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.jessicaleerichardson.com\/?page_id=26","title":{"rendered":"news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Good Things<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An <span class=\"il\">Ohio<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Arts<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Council<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Individual<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Excellence<\/span> <span class=\"il\">Award<\/span> for FY 2026 sent me to Brier Island for the most wonderful residency at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hammerandsky.com\/new-page\">Hammer and Sky.<\/a> Learned some falconry too &amp; wrote at the National Aviary!<\/p>\n<p>My short story collection was a finalist for the <a href=\"https:\/\/awpwriter.org\/AWP\/AWP\/Contests\/AWP-Award-Series\/2024-AWP-Award-Series-Finalists.aspx\">Grace Paley Prize<\/a> and my novella was 1st runner up in <a href=\"https:\/\/texasreviewpress.org\/submissions\/clay-reynolds-novella-prize\">Texas Review Press&#8217;s Clay Reynolds Novella Prize!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I got to collaborate with some writer crushes for the incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clereviewofbooks.com\/\">Cleveland Review of Books<\/a> on the subject of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clereviewofbooks.com\/writing\/awe-studies-we-look-to-be-undone\">Awe<\/a>. &lt;3<\/p>\n<p>My novel, Parhelia, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GrindstoneLit\">won<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grindstoneliterary.com\/novel-prize\">Grindstone International Novel Prize!<\/a> (!!!!!!!!) &lt;3<\/p>\n<p>My story <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortfictionjournal.co.uk\/post\/short-story-prize-2022-3rd-place-prize-winner-good-job-pressing-jessica-lee-richardson\">Good Job Pressing<\/a> won 3rd place in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shortfictionjournal.co.uk\/\">Short Fiction<\/a>\/University of Essex International Short Story Prize judged by Seren Adams and Caleb Azumah Nelson! Their words and Martin Stubbington&#8217;s illustration are dreamy and perfect.<\/p>\n<p>My story <a href=\"https:\/\/neondoorlit.com\/exhibit\/flock-327\">Flock<\/a> got to be a part of &#8220;Nudity&#8221; an immersive online literary exhibit at <a href=\"https:\/\/neondoorlit.com\/\">Neon Door.<\/a> I get chills looking around and reading in here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/willowspringsmagazine.org\/\">Willow Springs<\/a> nominated my poem, <em>Horse Collar<\/em>, for a Pushcart. Issue 86 is gorgeous. So excited to be included and thought of for this.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/ndrmag.org\/about\/\">New Delta Review<\/a> nominated <a href=\"http:\/\/ndrmag.org\/fiction\/2020\/05\/out-on-the-isthmus\/\">Out on the Isthmus<\/a> for <a href=\"http:\/\/bestofthenetanthology.com\/\">Best of the Net.<\/a> They are great and that story means a lot to me. Yay!<\/p>\n<p>Woohoo! My short story &#8220;Flock&#8221; won an honorable mention in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoetrope.com\/contests\/stories-2019\/\">Zoetrope All-Story&#8217;s 23rd Annual Short Story Contest<\/a> judged by Tommy Orange.<\/p>\n<p>I was so moved that the wonders at <a href=\"https:\/\/sundoglit.com\/\">Sundog Lit<\/a> nominated my poem, <a href=\"https:\/\/sundoglit.com\/richardson-2\/\">Pelagic with Pumps<\/a>, for Best of the Net.<\/p>\n<p>Talented actress <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hannahseusy.com\/\">Hannah Seusy<\/a> performed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liarsleaguenyc.com\/how-to-cast-a-net-by-jessica-lee-richardson\">my story<\/a> for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liarsleaguenyc.com\/\">Liars&#8217; League NYC<\/a> at KGB bar. So fun!<\/p>\n<p>Two of my former students and Waccamaw Editors founded a lit mag called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.electricmoonmagazine.com\/\">Electric Moon<\/a> and it&#8217;s gorgeous.<\/p>\n<p>Such an honor to get to talk about poetry over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verseofapril.com\/verseofapril\">Verse of April.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Really excited that the opening of my newest book is a semifinalist for the <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmwritersfestival.com\/\">Stockholm Writers<\/a> Festival <a href=\"https:\/\/stockholmwritersfestival.com\/first-pages-prize\">First Pages Prize.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of my favorite stories from the collection, <a href=\"https:\/\/psychopompmag.com\/arrivederci\/\">Arrivederci,<\/a> was reprinted at <a href=\"https:\/\/psychopompmag.com\/\">Psychopomp <\/a>with permission from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uapress.ua.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The University of Alabama Press<\/a><em>, <\/em>publisher of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fc2.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fiction Collective Two (FC2)<\/a>\u00a0books.<\/p>\n<p>My story <a href=\"http:\/\/thecollagist.com\/the-collagist\/2015\/7\/28\/roebling.html\">Roebling<\/a> was nominated for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sundresspublications.com\/bestof\/\">Best of the Net<\/a> by <a href=\"http:\/\/thecollagist.com\/about-the-collagist\/\">The Collagist.<\/a> Woweeee!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/nanofiction.org\/\">NANO Fiction<\/a> forever. They published this short interview about <a href=\"http:\/\/nanofiction.org\/weekly-feature\/interviews\/2016\/11\/how-i-write-jess-richardson\">How I Write<\/a> + the series is great.<\/p>\n<p>Got to react creatively to Dolan Morgan&#8217;s awesome\u00a0 new book, <a href=\"http:\/\/copingmechanisms.net\/portfolio\/insignificana-by-dolan-morgan\/\">Insignificana.<\/a> I linked the piece up at Vol. 1 Brooklyn on my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jessicaleerichardson.com\/?page_id=6\">writing page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I will lead workshops in Ireland this summer with <a href=\"http:\/\/goputney.com\/\">Putney Student Travel.<\/a> They <a href=\"http:\/\/goputney.com\/2016\/04\/05\/an-interview-with-jessica-lee-richardson\/\">interviewed me<\/a> about travel and writing.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pen.org\/\">Pen American Center<\/a> announced the <a href=\"http:\/\/lithub.com\/announcing-the-pen-longlists-pt-1\/\">longlist for the PEN\/Robert W. Bingham Award<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uapress.ua.edu\/product\/It-Had-Been-Planned-and-There-Were-Guides,6262.aspx\">my book<\/a> is on it!!!!
