Good Things<\/strong><\/p>\n

An Ohio<\/span> Arts<\/span> Council<\/span> Individual<\/span> Excellence<\/span> Award<\/span> for FY 2026 sent me to Brier Island for the most wonderful residency at Hammer and Sky.<\/a> Learned some falconry too & wrote at the National Aviary!<\/p>\n

My short story collection was a finalist for the Grace Paley Prize<\/a> and my novella was 1st runner up in Texas Review Press’s Clay Reynolds Novella Prize!<\/a><\/p>\n

I got to collaborate with some writer crushes for the incredible Cleveland Review of Books<\/a> on the subject of Awe<\/a>. <3<\/p>\n

My novel, Parhelia, won<\/a> the Grindstone International Novel Prize!<\/a> (!!!!!!!!) <3<\/p>\n

My story Good Job Pressing<\/a> won 3rd place in the Short Fiction<\/a>\/University of Essex International Short Story Prize judged by Seren Adams and Caleb Azumah Nelson! Their words and Martin Stubbington’s illustration are dreamy and perfect.<\/p>\n

My story Flock<\/a> got to be a part of “Nudity” an immersive online literary exhibit at Neon Door.<\/a> I get chills looking around and reading in here.<\/p>\n

Willow Springs<\/a> nominated my poem, Horse Collar<\/em>, for a Pushcart. Issue 86 is gorgeous. So excited to be included and thought of for this.<\/p>\n

The New Delta Review<\/a> nominated Out on the Isthmus<\/a> for Best of the Net.<\/a> They are great and that story means a lot to me. Yay!<\/p>\n

Woohoo! My short story “Flock” won an honorable mention in Zoetrope All-Story’s 23rd Annual Short Story Contest<\/a> judged by Tommy Orange.<\/p>\n

I was so moved that the wonders at Sundog Lit<\/a> nominated my poem, Pelagic with Pumps<\/a>, for Best of the Net.<\/p>\n

Talented actress Hannah Seusy<\/a> performed my story<\/a> for Liars’ League NYC<\/a> at KGB bar. So fun!<\/p>\n

Two of my former students and Waccamaw Editors founded a lit mag called Electric Moon<\/a> and it’s gorgeous.<\/p>\n

Such an honor to get to talk about poetry over at Verse of April.<\/a><\/p>\n

Really excited that the opening of my newest book is a semifinalist for the Stockholm Writers<\/a> Festival First Pages Prize.<\/a><\/p>\n

One of my favorite stories from the collection, Arrivederci,<\/a> was reprinted at Psychopomp <\/a>with permission from The University of Alabama Press<\/a>, <\/em>publisher of Fiction Collective Two (FC2)<\/a>\u00a0books.<\/p>\n

My story Roebling<\/a> was nominated for Best of the Net<\/a> by The Collagist.<\/a> Woweeee!<\/p>\n

NANO Fiction<\/a> forever. They published this short interview about How I Write<\/a> + the series is great.<\/p>\n

Got to react creatively to Dolan Morgan’s awesome\u00a0 new book, Insignificana.<\/a> I linked the piece up at Vol. 1 Brooklyn on my writing page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I will lead workshops in Ireland this summer with Putney Student Travel.<\/a> They interviewed me<\/a> about travel and writing.<\/p>\n

The Pen American Center<\/a> announced the longlist for the PEN\/Robert W. Bingham Award<\/a> and my book<\/a> is on it!!!! The judges, Helon Habila, Elizabeth McCracken, Edie Meidav, and Jess Row are some of my favorites around!<\/p>\n

“it had been planned and there were guides” <\/a>got recommended at Slate<\/a> in a post on most anticipated fall books!<\/p>\n

Library Journal<\/a> recommended it too, alongside “The Visiting Privilege” by Joy Williams and other great books. Swoon.<\/p>\n

The book<\/a> also got great reviews at Bookslut<\/a>, South 85<\/a>, Entropy<\/a>, and BWR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I did interviews about storying at The Collagist<\/a> and Les Femmes Folles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These nice people who I’ve never even met at The Short Form featured my story<\/a>, “All She Had”, which originally appeared in Hobart and is in my new book.<\/p>\n

A nice blogger I’ve never even met over at Ploughshares<\/a> wrote about “The Lips the Teeth the Tip of the Tongue”, which originally appeared in the Indiana Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I got to be a part of this amazing panel on nontraditional fiction with Fc2<\/a> and our collective wonderings are up at Entropy<\/a>.<\/p>\n
